One common critique is the sogginess of the fries, especially for take-out orders. Customers note that allowing the fries to sit for a while before eating can diminish their appeal. Another point of contention is the payment method—Ozze’s Plaice only accepts cash, which can be inconvenient for some diners accustomed to card payments. Additionally, the shop can get quite busy, especially on Fridays, leading to longer wait times. This can be frustrating for those wanting a quick meal. The limited seating options juxtaposed with its popularity means finding a table might require some patience, particularly during peak hours.
We ordered 2 medium COD fish and small fries , and it was enough for 4 pax. The medium COD fish portion like large size and the small size fries was big portion too. The COD fish is delicious 😋 and fresh. Only the fries are a bit soggy due to we take away about 20 min to reached the destination for ate. Good experience, and I will come back again.
If anyone was worried about Ozzie retiring, don’t be! This is still the ultimate chip shop and the best on the island by a mile. The staff are lovely, prices are good, the food is perfectly cooked, and the portion sizes are still ridiculous. I am a big boy, and I couldn’t finish a fish and small chips. It’s a dinner winner!
Wow, first time ever I ordered a large cod and felt like I was given a large cod. All good on the taste front, 20 mins before closing and concerned. However not to worry as fish and chips were amazing. I travel a lot with work and these were the best value fish I have ever had. To be fair not sure how they make money. Well done, I will be back.
Food was amazing, and the size is absolutely huge. I was warned about the size and still went with 3 bags of large chips for 9 people and still didn't touch the 3rd bag like they said I would. People that work in there are great and friendly people. Don't miss this hidden gem, visiting for the week and will be going back one more time.
By far the best chippie! Amazing food, portions and value. Please don’t close! Spent around £15 for 4 people.
Oh My God! What a find. We were on holiday from Brighton and promised ourselves a good fish & chips before we went home. My husband found Ozzies on Google might have even been the county press. We ordered 2 large cod and a medium chips and we were not disappointed. The chips were cooked to perfection and drenched in s&v just how we like it. Then there was the fish…When they say large they really mean XL. I’m not complaining in the slightest, we were shown before hand (as they're freshly cooked to order) and warned how large they were but we insisted. The batter was crunchy not soggy and the fish was by far the best fish we have ever had. Chefs kiss! The husband and wife duo (im guessing he’s Ozzy) were super friendly and if they ever want to open an ozzies in Southwick, Brighton they’d have a queue down the rd with us leading it
Really pleasant service BT the team. The portions are very generous. We ordered large chips and 5 of us could not finish it (not all kids eat chips 😉) Very nice clean place as well and there is parking in front of shop as well.
